First check · Ohio licences
Who is behind the care?
An in-person clinic and an online service both give you names to check. Begin with the person who will discuss your health.
Who is responsible, and how do I check?
The health professional assessing you and talking through your care is called a clinician.
Before choosing a visit, ask the clinician for their full name, type of licence and licence number.
Ohio’s medical board licenses doctors and physician assistants; its nursing board licenses nurses, including nurse practitioners.
Under Ohio’s rules, nurses called nurse practitioners can assess your health and prescribe medicines.
Keep the person’s name alongside the business name so the records are easier to compare.
How do I check a Cleveland prescriber?
The state’s free eLicense Ohio search covers clinicians, pharmacists and pharmacies.
For people licensed by Ohio’s medical board, the search also shows public actions taken by the board against the person’s licence.
An active licence is a starting check, not proof that a particular treatment fits your needs.

Telehealth means care by video, phone or information you send online for a clinician to review later.
As of September 28, 2026, a clinician usually needs an Ohio licence to begin treating you online while you are in Ohio.
During the first visit, your clinician must confirm your identity and location and give you their own name and licence type.
Tell the clinician your physical location for the appointment, even if Cleveland is where you usually live.
What about a pharmacy outside Ohio?
Check the pharmacy’s Ohio licence as well as the licence of the person who writes your prescription.
To mail prescription medicine into Ohio, an out-of-state pharmacy needs a licence from Ohio’s pharmacy board, as recorded on September 28, 2026.
Get the pharmacy’s own name, then look it up in the same state search.

The Ohio records behind this check
Ohio licensing and telehealth information is current to September 28, 2026.
The Ohio licence rule has a narrow exception, recorded September 28, 2026, for doctors who previously treated you in another state.
If the doctor is licensed there, they may continue care for that same condition after you return to Ohio, including online.
This lasts up to a year after your last care from that doctor in the other state.
It does not let that doctor begin treating a new Ohio patient online without an Ohio licence.
